Job Description

Hitachi Vantara Product Designer

We're Hitachi Vantara, the data foundation trusted by the world's innovators. Our resilient, high-performance data infrastructure means that customers – from banks to theme parks – can focus on achieving the incredible with data.

If you've seen the Las Vegas Sphere, you've seen just one example of how we empower businesses to automate, optimize, innovate – and wow their customers. Right now, we're laying the foundation for our next wave of growth. We're looking for people who love being part of a diverse, global team – and who get excited about making a real-world impact with data.

Role Overview

We are looking for an early-career Product Designer to join our Product Design team. This role is suited to a recent graduate or someone beginning their professional design career. You will work alongside experienced designers, product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to help create useful, intuitive, and accessible digital products. We believe good design starts with understanding people and problems, not simply producing interfaces. You will learn to balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints while contributing to real product initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to understand user needs, business goals, and project requirements.
  • Contribute to user research, discovery activities, workshops, and usability testing.
  • Help translate insights and requirements into user flows, journey maps, wireframes, prototypes, and interface designs.
  • Use Figma to explore concepts, create prototypes, and contribute to production-ready designs.
  • Apply and learn from established design systems to help maintain consistency across products.
  • Participate in design reviews and critiques, explaining design decisions and incorporating feedback.
  • Iterate on solutions based on user feedback, data, business priorities, and technical constraints.
  • Consider usability, accessibility, and inclusivity throughout the design process.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Continuously develop knowledge of Product Design, UX, UI, research, accessibility, and emerging design practices.
Qualifications:
  • Recent graduate in Product Design, Interaction Design, UX/UI Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Portfolio demonstrating design thinking, problem solving, and design process. Academic, personal, internship, or collaborative projects are welcome.
  • Good understanding of user-centred design principles.
  • Familiarity with Figma or similar design and prototyping tools.
  • Basic understanding of interaction design, visual design, usability, and accessibility.
  • Ability to explain the reasoning and process behind design decisions, not only the final outcome.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Curiosity, openness to feedback, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.
Nice to Have:
  • Exposure to user research or usability testing.
  • Familiarity with design systems and component-based design.
  • Understanding of Agile or iterative product development.
  • Interest in complex software, enterprise products, data, AI, or emerging technologies.

No previous full-time Product Design experience is required.

As required by the equal pay and transparency acts, the expected base salary for this position is: $55K to $75K. Expected on-target earnings: $60K to $80K.

The expected pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi Vantara's bonus/variable/commission pay programs, where applicable, and are subject to the program's conditions and restrictions.
